Projects to be underaken:

Birds of the Western Ghats, Souhern Districts of Tamilnadu.

Butterflies in Theni District (with illustrations and images of butterfly species endemic to the Western Ghats)

Primates mainly Nilgiri langurs and Lion Tailed macaques and Slender loris  in the Western Ghats, Theni District

Rare and endangered wildlife in all the Forest Divisions of Theni District (IUCN Red listed)

Indigenous Knowledge on Rare Bird protection and other avian fauna in the Western Ghats

Conservation of Bat communities in the Western Ghats (with the support of the Audubon Naturalist Society from April 2012).

Inventorying and documentation of flora and fauna of Theni District, Tamilnadu, India.

Documentation of Indigenous Knowledge on Medicine, Agriculture, Natural resources and cultural heritage found among rural and indigenous communities in southern districts of Tamilnadu, India.

Promoting ICT for natural resource management, biodiversity conservation and utilizing latest technology such as GPS, GIS, Remote Sensing etc for wildlife protection, land analysis and biodiversity/ecosystem conservation.

Digitizing ancient Palm Leaf manuscripts (Medicinal) found in remote villages of Tamilnadu

Reviving Traditional Water Purification Technologies in rural areas to combat water borne diseases with the help of the Pollination Project, USA.  

 

 

 

PROJECTS COMPLETED

 
FRSD has completed the following projects:
 
(a) Environmental Education on Invasive Alien Species and the Primates in the Western Ghats Mountain area, Theni District, supported by the KNCF, Japan.
 
(b) Conservation Education on Primates/Slender loris (L.tardigradus) in the Eastern Ghats mountain, Dindigul District,supported by the Audubon Naturalist Society, USA and the International Primatological Society.
 
(c)  Environmental Awareness Campaigns on Biodiversity Conservation, climate change, water, sacred groves, natural resources and traditional knowledge supported by the Government of India and other agencies.
 
(d) Surveying Education/disaster management for NGOs, policy makers,coastal communities and personnel of the Survey Department supported by the FIG Foundation, Denmark. 
 
(e) Documentation of the Flora and Fauna of the Western Ghats Mountain, Theni, Virudhunagar, Dindigul, Madurai, and Tirunelveli Districts, supported by the Government of India.
 
(f) Promoting Indian System of Medicines among rural people in Madurai District supported by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.
 
(g) Tree Plantation and promotion of Kitchen Herbal Gardens in rural pockets supported by Networking Voluntary Organizations.
 
(h) Empowering rural and indigenous communities through awareness generation, income generation programs, education and sensitization programs supported by the Strathspey Charitable Trust, UK and the YSA, USA.
 
(i) Conservation of Mountain Ecosystem and Biodiversity in the  Kurangani hills, supported by the GREEN, Theni District.
 
(j)  Training of farmers and voluntary organizations on Permaculture supported by the Permafund, Australia
 
(k) Revitalization of traditional water purification technologies to combat water borne diseases in rural areas supported by the Pollination Project USA and the OTF, Canada.
